SGT 11B NCOER Bullets: 6 Examples at Fire Team Leader Scope
A SGT 11B leads a fire team, usually 3 Soldiers plus the team leader, and the NCOER should be written in fire team numbers: weapons qualification, battle drills, ruck standards, and the readiness of the Soldiers this NCO sees at every formation.
// 01What makes a SGT 11B NCOER different
The fire team is the smallest maneuver element in the Army, and its NCOER evidence is concrete: individual weapons qualification, battle drill proficiency on squad STX lanes, sensitive item accountability through every field problem, and the AFT and ruck performance of the 3 Soldiers on the team. A SGT 11B report that quantifies those things reads true. One that claims company outcomes without a mechanism reads borrowed.
The form matters too. A SGT is rated on DA Form 2166-9-1, which offers only two box checks per block: Met standard or Did not meet standard (DA PAM 623-3 ¶3-6a). The Exceeded and Far Exceeded boxes do not exist until SSG. The calibration below still matters, because boards read bullet strength, not just boxes, and ¶3-6a’s two definitions are word-for-word the first two tiers of ¶3-11a.
// 02Tier calibration for a 11B fire team leader
Short version for a fire team leader: Met is the whole team trained to standard with appropriate initiative (¶3-11a(2)); Exceeded strength shows disciplined initiative with an immediate, measurable delta (¶3-11a(3)); Far Exceeded strength adds consistency, an effect that outlasts the period, or results adopted beyond the team (¶3-11a(4)). The full verbatim text is in the four-tier explainer.
// 03Met-tier SGT 11B bullets
Met: ¶3-11a(2) · Achieves
o led 3-Soldier fire team through 2 squad STX densities and 8 qualification ranges; team completed every battle task to standard
Why this reads as Met: the whole team, trained to standard, all period. That is ¶3-11a(2)’s appropriate initiative and positive impact, and it is the honest baseline for a first-year team leader.
Met: ¶3-11a(2) · Presence
o set the physical standard for the team; led fire team PT 5 days a week and finished every battalion ruck event with the full team intact
Why this reads as Met: the team leader is the standard the team sees first. Keeping 3 Soldiers on step through every event is real, checkable, and exactly what the majority of SGTs at this grade deliver.
// 04SGT 11B bullets at Exceeded strength
Exceeded-strength: ¶3-11a(3) · Achieves
o raised team weapons qualification from 2 of 4 to 4 of 4 expert or sharpshooter by running 5 unscheduled PMI and dry-fire sessions
Why this reads at Exceeded strength: remedial marksmanship nobody ordered is disciplined initiative, and the 2-of-4 to 4-of-4 movement is an immediate impact stated as a before-and-after fact (¶3-11a(3)).
Exceeded-strength: ¶3-11a(3) · Develops
o trained both junior Soldiers to fight one position up; each led a battle drill iteration validated by the platoon sergeant
Why this reads at Exceeded strength: deliberately building depth beyond the assigned duty, with an externally validated result inside the period. What keeps it from Far Exceeded strength: nothing yet endured beyond the team or the period.
// 05SGT 11B bullets at Far Exceeded strength
Far Exceeded-strength: ¶3-11a(4) · Develops
o built weekly EIB skill-station rotation; 2 of 3 Soldiers earned the badge, company adopted the rotation for all 9 teams
Why this reads at Far Exceeded strength: a consistent mechanism all season, a named result for the Soldiers rather than the NCO, and adoption across the company, which is the enduring effect ¶3-11a(4) adds over (3).
Far Exceeded-strength: ¶3-11a(4) · Leads
o led fire team to top squad STX lane score of 27 teams at JRTC; picked over 6 SGT peers to lead company opposing force detachment
Why this reads at Far Exceeded strength: a peer-distribution fact (top of 27, picked over 6) is best of the upper third made checkable, and the selection shows leadership the chain trusted beyond the billet.
// 06Common mistakes on SGT 11B NCOERs
Writing at squad scope. A fire team leader who claims squad outcomes is writing the SSG’s report. Name the team: 3 Soldiers, their quals, their drills. The reader knows the difference immediately.
Listing field time as an accomplishment. Days in the field is exposure, not performance. Two weeks at a training center is the setting; the lane score, the qualification delta, or the validated battle drill is the bullet.
Skipping the two-box rule. There is no Exceeded box on DA Form 2166-9-1. Writing “far exceeded all standards” as prose in a Met block wastes a line that could carry a fact strong enough to matter at the board.
// 07The 11B bullet BulletForge will not write
Feed the generator a thin fire team leader input and ask for the top tier, and it refuses instead of inflating. The refusal names what is missing and burns no quota.
The input a rater actually types
“solid team leader, leads from the front, soldiers respect him” · requested tier: Far Exceeded strength
What BulletForge answers instead of writing it
This input does not support FAR EXCEEDED strength. ¶3-11a(4) needs at least one checkable marker: what did team qualification, AFT, or battle drill numbers do under this NCO? Did a Soldier earn EIB, win a board, or get promoted because of this NCO’s coaching? Did anything this NCO built get adopted beyond the team? Respect is real, but it is not a marker. Add the facts and ask again, or take the tier the input honestly supports. The refusal burned none of your quota.
