SSG 13B NCOER Bullets: 6 Examples at Howitzer Section Chief Scope
A SSG 13B owns a howitzer and its crew outright: certification, safety, maintenance, and every round that leaves the tube. Section chief is also the first 13B job rated on the four-box form, where ¶3-11a decides boxes instead of just wording.

The section chief’s NCOER writes itself in certifications and stopwatches if the chief keeps score: Table VI results, occupation and out-of-action times, howitzer operational readiness through the maintenance cycle, ammunition accountability to the round, and the gunner and cannoneers developed underneath him. A chief’s claim is strong exactly when the battery’s records can confirm it.
On DA Form 2166-9-2 all four boxes are live. The difference between Met and Exceeded on a gun line is rarely effort; it is whether the section’s numbers moved against the standard and against the other sections, and whether the chief can put the delta in one line.

Why this reads as Far Exceeded: a chief who found the systemic cause, fixed it, and saw the fix published battalion-wide has immediate impact and an enduring artifact together. That combination, not the 30% alone, is what earns ¶3-11a(4).
// 06Common mistakes on SSG 13B NCOERs
Writing safety as a differentiator. Zero safety incidents is the entry fee, not a tier argument. Every chief still wearing the job has a safe record; the differentiator is what the section’s scores and times did against 17 other sections.
Hiding the maintenance story. A howitzer that made every mission because its services were done on time is a chief accomplishment with numbers attached, operational readiness rate, services completed, deadlines beaten. Most drafts leave the motor pool out entirely.
No successor evidence. The board’s question at SSG is whether this NCO builds NCOs. A gunner certified to run the section is the answer; a report without him says the section dies when the chief leaves.
