An engineer squad leader’s ledger is task-based and checkable: squad breach and demolition certifications, obstacle emplacement against time standards, route clearance missions completed, the squad’s equipment readiness from mine detectors to the demo set, and two team leaders developed toward their own squads. The strong bullet names the lane, the standard, and the delta.
DA Form 2166-9-2 brings the four-box scale, and DA PAM 623-3 ¶3-11a decides between them on evidence. Engineer companies run external evaluations that produce exactly that evidence; the squad leader’s job on the NCOER is to get those numbers onto the page before the profile math starts.

Why this reads as Far Exceeded: an artifact built from threat analysis, used by the whole company, then institutionalized by the battalion. Adoption at two echelons above the squad is the enduring effect that defines ¶3-11a(4).
// 06Common mistakes on SSG 12B NCOERs
Effort instead of lane results. Engineer squads work brutally hard by default, so hard work differentiates nothing. The evaluation score, the time against standard, and the clean range record are what separate this squad from the other eight.
Equipment readiness ignored. A squad whose detectors, demo sets, and vehicles made every mission has a readiness story with numbers. That is squad leader work; leaving it out shrinks the report.
Team leaders as background characters. At SSG the board wants proof this NCO grows NCOs. Two team leaders certified to run ranges and lanes independently is that proof, and it outweighs another paragraph of demolition statistics.
