The AFT Alternate Events: All Four Go/No-Go Times, Straight From the Official Tables

Most people search for “AFT alternative events.” The official score tables call them Alternate Events, and under the Army Fitness Test standards approved 15 May 2025 and effective 1 June 2025 there are exactly four: a 2.5-mile walk, a 12 km bike, a 1 km swim, and a 5 km row. No points, no scaled score. One time standard per age bracket, Go or No-Go. Here is the entire table, transcribed from the official scoring scales, plus exactly how the result records on DA Form 705-AFT.

// 01Four events, one clock, no points

The alternate events live on the last page of the official Army Fitness Test score tables. The table’s full title, verbatim:

Alternate Events (Go/No-Go) (Overall time for required distance - minutes and seconds) Army Fitness Test Score Tables, Approved: 15 May 2025, Effective: 1 June 2025

The four events, with the distances exactly as the table prints them:

  • 2.5-mile Walk
  • 12 km Bike
  • 1 km Swim
  • 5 km Row

Every other event in the AFT scores on a 100-to-0 point scale. The alternate events do not. The table gives one time per age bracket per column group, and the parenthetical in the title says the rest: Go/No-Go. Finish the required distance inside the time and you Go; do not, and you No-Go. There is no partial credit and no way to bank extra points by finishing faster.

// 02The complete time table

Transcribed in full from the official table. The columns are printed under each age bracket exactly as headed in the source: one column headed “M | C” and one headed “F.” The scoring document itself never defines those letters, but the directive that established the AFT defines the two standards the whole test runs on. Army Directive 2025-06, verbatim:

The AFT combat standard is sex-neutral and age-normed. Army Directive 2025-06, para 4b(1)
The AFT general standard is performance-normed by sex and age. Army Directive 2025-06, para 4b(2)

Read against those two definitions, and verified for this post: the “M | C” column serves male Soldiers testing on the general standard and every Soldier testing on the combat standard, which is sex-neutral by definition and so needs only one column. The “F” column serves female Soldiers testing on the general standard. All times are minutes:seconds, and each is the slowest time that still earns a Go.

Over 6233:0036:0028:0730:4132:5035:4832:5035:48

Two things worth noticing, both in the source. The swim and row times are identical in every bracket: that is the document’s own content, not a transcription shortcut. And the times are not a straight line by age. The 27-31 bracket carries the fastest standards, and the times ease outward in both directions from there.

// 03Go/No-Go is the whole scoring model

The main AFT events convert a raw performance into 0 to 100 points, and those points add up to a total score. The alternate events page has no point scale at all: no points column, no row of scores, just the one time per bracket and the Go/No-Go label in the title. The scorecard is built the same way. On DA Form 705-AFT, the five primary scored events each carry a plain “POINTS” field, while the alternate-event block is the only block on the form printed as “POINTS (60/0)” with dedicated “GO” and “NOGO” checkboxes. The form does not spell out what the “(60/0)” notation means, so we quote it rather than paraphrase it; the takeaway that is safe to state is that an alternate event records as a Go or a No-Go, not as an earned score you can push higher. The one carve-out, covered below, is a promotions rule in Army Directive 2025-06 that assigns a point value to a Go for Soldiers in combat specialties.

// 04How it records on DA Form 705-AFT

The current scorecard, DA Form 705-AFT (April 2026), gives the alternate events a single combined block on every test record. The block label, verbatim:

5K ROW / 1K SWIM / 12K BIKE / 2.5MI WALK [(circle or use the drop down list) (overall time to reach required distance (minutes : seconds)] DA Form 705-AFT, APR 2026

So one block covers all four events: the grader circles or selects which event was performed, records the overall time to the required distance, and marks GO or NOGO, with the “POINTS (60/0)” field and grader initials alongside. The form’s own governing line reads: “For use of this form, see ATP 7-22.01 and associated TC 7-22.01; the proponent agency is T2COM,” and its footnote points to the official tables: “To convert raw scores to scaled scores, refer to the AFT event score conversion tables posted to the Army Fitness Test website at: https://www.army.mil/aft.”

// 05Who takes the alternate events: the directive’s own words

Alternate-event policy is not folklore; it is paragraph 4g of Army Directive 2025-06, titled Permanent Profiles. The core of it, verbatim:

Soldiers with a permanent profile will take all events not prohibited by a permanent profile. Soldiers must receive a “GO” in the alternative aerobic event, if taken. Army Directive 2025-06, para 4g

So the population is Soldiers with a permanent profile. They test on every event the profile does not prohibit, and if they take an alternate aerobic event, a Go is mandatory, not optional. For combat specialties, the same paragraph adds an averaging ladder: those Soldiers “must pass all events not prohibited by a permanent profile with an average of 70 points or higher,” and the directive spells the ladder out event count by event count: “4 events minimum 280 points = ‘PASS,’ 3 events minimum 210 points = ‘PASS,’ 2 events minimum 140 points = ‘PASS,’ and 1 event minimum 70 points = ‘PASS’.” And the promotions rule: “Soldiers serving in combat specialties will receive 70 points for a ‘GO’ on the alternate aerobic event and for all events prohibited by profile for the purpose of semi-centralized promotions.”

One line of honesty that still applies: whether a Soldier holds a permanent profile, and what that profile prohibits, is a medical decision between the Soldier and their provider under the medical fitness standards paragraph 4g points to. This page tells you the policy once a profile exists; it does not tell you whether one applies to you.

// 06Check the source, then check your score

The times above were transcribed directly from the official Army Fitness Test score tables (approved 15 May 2025, effective 1 June 2025). The Army posts the current tables and the scorecard on the official AFT page at army.mil/aft; that is the document of record, and if this page and that PDF ever disagree, the PDF wins. The policy quotes come from Army Directive 2025-06 (Army Fitness Test), the Secretary of the Army directive that made the AFT the test of record on 1 June 2025, published with the rest of the directive series by the Army Publishing Directorate. For the five primary scored events, our free AFT calculator runs the same official June 2025 tables, point for point.

A Go on an alternate event is a data point on a Soldier’s record, and the leaders who track it all year are the ones whose evaluations write themselves in October. BulletForge’s accomplishment log keeps a Soldier’s fitness milestones on their record with the date attached, next to everything else they did that quarter.
